Unbreakable Windows for Surge Pile Equipment

Our Origins

Bodygard developed and has been installing safety window packages in surge pile equipment for the coal industry since the year 2000. From 1990 to 2000, 19 equipment operators were killed when their unit was engulfed, collapsing the windows and suffocating them inside. Since the implementation of the Bodygard system, not one operator has perished in that manner.

Mark Skiles, former director of safety for MSHA stated in 2005, “At least 20 lives have been saved by the Bodygard window package!”, and since then, it has been only success stories when our package is in place.  Having experienced the tragedy of losing his father in a coal mine accident when he was only 13 years old, the owner of Bodygard has committed his life to making coal mining safer.

Our System

PolycastTM  cell cast acrylic bullet resistant sheet, is an effective solution for essential barrier protection. The characteristics that should be considered when choosing safety windows are adequate protection, weight, optical clarity, and cost.

Polycast, along with the Bodygard installation process of external installation, offers the right balance of properties to meet these specific needs. Lighter than glass or polycarbonate, with better clarity, it is the perfect solution to protecting your operator. It will not yellow, haze, or degrade when exposed to the elements.

The Super Abrasion Resistant (SAR) coating has 45 times the abrasion resistance as uncoated acrylic.

The 1.25” thick sheet has a ballistic rating that can stop a 9mm or a 38 bullet, and a PSI rating of 10,800, well above MSHA’s requirement of 40 PSI.

The windows are precut and encased in a "T" frame then attached outside of the window openings so there is no chance of an internal collapse.

The safety adaptions for surge pile equipment have been so successful that power plants have followed suit. The oil and gas industry along with rock quarries would also greatly benefit from safety windows for their units. Less than half the cost of other options and much more effective.
